Island Bay Playground sits at 593 Adelaide Road on the Wakefield Park edge of Newtown/Island Bay, opened in 2019 as a Wellington City Council destination play space. The centrepiece is a 5.5 metre climbing tower with a high slide, paired with a 30-metre flying fox, a basket swing and an accessible carousel, and the build sits between a skate bowl and a childrens bike track so kids can move between features. It is consistently well-regarded by visitors and pulls in families from across Wellingtons southern suburbs. On-site parking is alongside Adelaide Road by Wakefield Park.
