Hugh Hayward Domain is the sporting and recreational hub of the Hauraki Plains, a large multi-code park in Ngatea on State Highway 2. The playground is in Pioneer Park at the front of the domain, alongside a street-style skatepark, basketball hoop, public toilets and a BBQ, with the Ngātea swimming pool, rugby, football, cricket and netball facilities filling the rest of the site. It is consistently well-regarded by visitors as the natural stop for families breaking the drive between Auckland and the Coromandel. Parking is generous and the site is easy to find off the main road.
