Porritt Park is Thames's $1.5 million destination playground on Queen Street, opened on 31 May 2024 and largely funded by philanthropists Jackie and Chris Reeve. The centrepiece is the bespoke Wakatere boat-themed climbing tower and lookout, with talking tunnels, hamster wheels, an accessible seesaw and carousel, a separate skateboard bowl and a basketball half-court. The site has the fifth Changing Places accessible bathroom in New Zealand, BBQs, extra seating, picnic areas and murals designed by local school children; it is well-regarded across the Coromandel as a family day-out destination.
