Caroline Bay Playground in Timaru is a $3 million heritage-themed destination play space completed in December 2023, championed by community group CPlay with Timaru District Council. The centrepiece is a 10m Lighthouse Tower inspired by Blackett's Lighthouse with 7m and 5m tube slides, a climbing wall, scramble nets and a rope chimney; the wider site includes a paddling pool, courts, a bike skills park and skatepark and is one of the largest play areas in New Zealand.

What a great playground, so much to do here and so much for the kids to play on and explore. Was a great stop for the kids to stretch their legs while on a big road trip. Kids didn’t want to leave which is always a great sign. So much to do for my little 2yo up to my 7yo. Spent a good 1.5hours here and was more then I wanted to stop for but the kids were having too much fun. Love how the upgrade of the playground includes the old school play equipment with also the new. Definitely will be back and will make it a normal stop for us when on the road.

One of my favourite cities in New Zealand. Caroline Bay rated in the top ten beaches with an amazing adventure playground which has a replica of the original lighthouse, shipwreck, dolphin and partially submerged crates in the make believe water. Plaque provides history of the lighthouse and early shipping to Timaru.
