Caroline Bay is Timaru’s beachfront recreation precinct, anchored by the 1936 Sound Shell amphitheatre and gifted aviary, with the 2023 destination playground championed by volunteers and Timaru District Council. The play area sits beside the rose garden, dune boardwalk, ornamental fountain, sculpture walk, skatepark and one of the South Island’s safest swimming bays. Picnic tables, toilets and parking line the foreshore.
