Te Waituarua Reserve sits at 170 Waituarua Drive in the Waiata Shores subdivision of Takanini, South Auckland - a $2 million Fletcher-funded destination playground opened in June 2024. The design honours Kaiwhare, the stingray guardian of the Manukau Harbour, with a custom play tower, accessible carousels, swings, climbing structures and a BMX pump track that caters from toddlers to teens; pram and wheelchair access throughout, shaded picnic spots and water taps. There are no on-site toilets, so plan a stop beforehand; the playground is a well-regarded family destination across South Auckland.
