Otaraua Park is a 60-hectare council reserve on the south bank of the Waikanae River in Otaihanga, bought by Kapiti Coast District Council in 2012. The site is mostly junior and senior football fields with riverside walking tracks; the planned destination playground, blokart track and bike routes have been put on hold while costs are reviewed.

The park/ playing fields themselves are great, with good access to the path beside the river for walking and cycling, but I think it's time the council invested in some proper bathrooms for the many people who use the park. They have two portaloo-type facilities, but I'd advise only going there if you're desperate.
