Mander Park is a Whangārei District Council heritage park on the corner of Western Hills Drive and Third Avenue, just outside the CBD. The reserve sits among historic Ginkgo, Oak and Tōtara trees gifted by Francis Mander in 1906, with a recently upgraded playground designed using input from children. The play space combines climbing frames, swings including a Lilly pad swing, seesaws and a junior modular unit with a small slide, bridge and tunnel, surrounded by picnic tables in shaded spots, toilets and water fountains. Best treated as a comfortable family stop combining play with a wander among the heritage trees.
