Elmwood Park is a Christchurch City Council heritage park in leafy Merivale on Heaton Street, distinguished by its ivy-covered chain link fence and ties to the Rhodes family estate. The playground caters to a wide age range, with a brightly coloured activity frame for younger kids and an extra-high slide, multi-play structure, swings, seesaw, may pole and spring-mounted play items for older primary-aged children. A small stream borders the play area, so ducks are a recurring attraction. Sports fields, a tennis club and a croquet club share the wider reserve, with on-site toilets and parking making it a comfortable family stop.
