Little Hagley Park is the 6.96 hectare northern unit of Hagley Park, sitting between Harper Avenue and Carlton Mill Road at the north-east corner of the wider Christchurch Botanic Gardens precinct. The reserve has historical significance as a meeting and resting place for Māori travellers to Christchurch and Ngāi Tahu encampments through the 1860s, and today carries a short, accessible 1 kilometre river-side walking and stroller route along the Avon. The playground sits within the wider Hagley network rather than being a destination feature in its own right. Best treated as a walk-and-play stop while exploring the central Christchurch parks.
