The Whitianga Waterfront Playground sits on Esplanade Reserve beside the Whitianga wharf in Mercury Bay, opened in mid-2019 as a Thames Coromandel destination play space designed by Boffa Miskell and Playground Creations. The nautical theme runs through three age-graded zones, encircled by a mini scooter track: a sand play zone with a commanding wooden boat (helm, telescope), a main play zone with a customised multi-play unit and slide, supernova spinner, large net climber, inground trampoline, seesaw and multiple swings, plus a toddler section. Café-strip, harbour views and Whitianga shops are a short walk away - well-rated as one of Coromandel's top family playgrounds.
