Waikanae Estuary Scientific Reserve is a Department of Conservation wetland and estuary reserve at the mouth of the Waikanae River on the Kāpiti Coast, connected to the Kapiti Marine Reserve and Kapiti Island Nature Reserve. The reserve is a nationally significant bird habitat with 60+ species recorded including banded dotterel, pukeko, dabchick and variable oystercatcher. Flat gravel paths and boardwalks loop through the wetlands for walking and cycling, with the main track entrance off northern Manly Street (Paraparaumu Beach) or via Otaihanga Road. Picnic tables and accessible toilets sit at the adjacent Otaihanga Domain.

A very pleasant scenic walkway taking through native flowers and bush. You can also enter onto the beach for further walks and activities.
