Tūpare is a heritage Arts and Crafts homestead and 3.6-hectare hillside garden in New Plymouth, overlooking the Waiwhakaiho River and operated by the Taranaki Regional Council. Purchased in 1932 by Russell and Mary Matthews and developed over the following decades, the garden holds the New Zealand Garden Trust's highest rating and is considered of international significance. Features include the glade, glasshouse, old orchard, cliff cascade, an open paddock for games, a tennis court and summer river-swimming access. Entry is free and the garden is open every day.

These are fantastic gardens, just outside New Plymouth. The house is only open on certain days and was unfortunately closed on the day we visited. We spent about 2 hours just in the gardens though. Could do with a bit more signage, we couldn't find our way out!

Beautiful garden! Will definitely come back here again 😍 The outdoor garden opens all day but the greenhouse closes at 4pm and the house tour are available from Friday and weekends 🤗❤️ …
