Balsom Park is a New Plymouth District Council nature park on William Street in Highlands Park, with walking trails winding through bush, sheep grazing in the open paddocks, and a small fenced playground for kids alongside. Shaded picnic spots make it a comfortable family pause point, though there are no toilets here (the nearest are at Merrilands Domain). Dogs must be on lead to avoid disturbing the sheep. A relaxed nature-led park rather than a destination playground.

A hidden gem in the midst of suburbia. The beautiful trees and river make the sheep poo worth it! Make sure you wear hiking shoes or gumboots as the grass can be long and the ground uneven and wet. You can get up close to the river if you have the right footwear so come prepared unlike us! Will be back...

Lovely to visit and swim. Not much else there though.
