Te Marae o Hine, The Square, is the historic cultural heart of Palmerston North, named in the 1880s to symbolise tribes and races living together peacefully (Courtyard of the Daughter of Peace). The 7-hectare central park features formal gardens, a duck pond, the Hopwood Clock Tower, fountains and significant Māori carvings created in 1990 by John Bevan Ford and Warren Warbrick honouring the Square's peace-making name. The Square hosts community events, has open lawns for relaxing, public toilets and is bordered by Palmerston North's CBD with parking on the surrounding streets.

In the middle of CBD and with easy walking distance of central Motel accomodation. Nice park with the iconic Clock Tower in the middle. Lots of grass areas with shade and they were setting up to have some live music later too. Great place to relax and enjoy the lovely surroundings.
Beautiful little park in city center. Well kept with ample parking available. The purpose of my visit was to see the Feathers of the Chief sculpture. After reading about the sculpture's intent, i thought it would be important to experience firsthand. I was right. I was unable to find any information around explaining the sculpture. Maybe just me.
