This playground is huge! So much for the kids to do (almost too much). So expansive, it was hard to keep track of the kids if you have more than one and they run off in different directions. We didn't use the water/splash play area, but it looks like it would be great fun on a hot day.

Kowhai Park is Whanganui's flagship destination playground in Whanganui East, set in a riverside reserve alongside the Whanganui River. Themed adventure pieces include a hollow octopus head with swings suspended from its tentacles, a dinosaur-back slide, whale-tail slide, clock tower, Old Woman's Shoe and a brontosaurus, plus an adventure fort with climbing frames, bridges and a long flying fox. A miniature railway, water-play features, spacious picnic areas and an adjacent skate park round out a full day-out for mixed-age kids. The Whanganui District Council park is one of the country's best-known free destination playgrounds.
