Aotea Lagoon is Porirua’s landmark destination park on the Pāuatahanui Inlet at Papakōwhai, with a wide tidal lagoon, gardens, BBQ areas and a children’s memorial walkway. The play zone packs in an adventure playground, fenced toddler playground, splash pad, pump track and a stream area; the iconic 832m Aotea Lagoon Miniature Railway (operated by the Lions Club since 1979) returned in 2024 after a major track rebuild, running most Sundays. Toilets, parking, climbing structures and shade sit alongside.

Aotea Lagoon is an excellent place to go for some family fun! The lagoon itself is great for walking around, the pump track is quite fun to ride around and the newly opend workout area is nice. There is normally a coffee cart their and Mr Whippy turns up on busy days/holidays and on Sundays, their are kid train rides around the lagoon! I would recommend going here for these holidays, take some kai and chill out in the sun ☀️

What a place, easy family entertainment. Go on a Sunday between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm when the train is running.
