William Fraser Memorial Park (Pohe Island) is Whangārei District Council’s central riverside park beside the Hātea Loop walkway, built on the site of the district’s old landfill. The 2023-opened Pohe Island Destination Playground is fully inclusive, with towering climbing frames, thrilling slides, a wheelchair-accessible carousel, in-ground wheelchair-friendly trampolines, sensory sand pit, acoustic music panels and accessible swings. The wider park includes a skatepark, bike park, fencing, walking and cycling links into the Hātea Loop and a 272-space carpark.
