Hihiaua Park is a Whangārei District Council waterfront reserve on Reyburn House Lane, part of the Hātea Loop walkway and the $4 million Town Basin/Quayside/Hihiaua redevelopment. The riverside reserve features contoured terraces, stone walls, bicultural heritage storyboards, lighting and security cameras, a children's playground with a sandpit, climbing equipment and bike track, and the steel-wood-rope Punga sculpture (a Northland-style hinaki fish trap). It connects to the wider Town Basin marina and Hātea Loop circuit linking with Pohe Island and the Town Basin Playground.

We love this park. At low tide, you can watch sea birds digging in the sand of the river banks. We have seen Spoonbills. Oyster Catchers, Sea Gulls, Kingfishers, Herons, and more!
