The Pocket Park sits between Port Road and the Hātea Loop walkway in Whangārei, next to the Kotuitui Whitinga footbridge connecting Okara Shopping Centre to the harbour-side cycle path. The site was built on a retained slipway to manage Port Road flooding and is centred on a large sandpit with play equipment, shaded seating, a viewing deck and waterfront views. Local hapū Te Parawhau, carver Mike Tupaea and artists Charles and Janine Williams shaped the murals and carvings here; it's a well-rated, art-filled stop on the Loop rather than a destination playground.

Such a cool little park for a stop when you're doing the loop! Lots of sand play and just a short qalk down from te mata pohe bridge carpark if you don't want to do rhe whole loop.

An amazing place to sit and reflect - yet minutes from intensive industrial and major retail facilities. Grab a pie, savory or just coffee and a slice. Or bring kids and or a friend to this special place. A few child friendly amenities, some seating, or sitting on the grass to enjoy ambience any time of year. Murals and plants add to the quiet experience. Some people will know this as part of the cycle track and or walking circuit. The bridge over the waterway nearby can lead to other adventures too.
