The Waterfront Playground sits on The Strand in central Tauranga, a $5m destination play space opened in December 2024 that connects whenua and moana through Tauranga Moana storytelling. Its iconic 8m waka tower offers climbing and slide options, alongside a nature trail for balancing, an elevated pathway etched with Milky Way and Matariki stars, a water-play zone with pumps and troughs, a sandpit and a basketball half-court. Hairy Maclary sculptures, accessible paths, picnic seating, drinking fountains and toilets make this a top family destination on the Tauranga waterfront for kids 2.5+.

Gorgeous clean waterfront playground with lots of varied things for the kids (and grown ups) to play on. Musical instruments. Slides and swings. Sandpit with digger. Agility course. Covered areas when it’s hot.
