Waitangi Park is Wellington’s largest CBD green space, on Oriental Parade in Te Aro, opened in 2006 after a Wraight Athfield Landscape Architecture redevelopment that won multiple NZILA, NZIA and Civic Trust awards. The waterfront park sits over the historic Waitangi Stream (a Māori food-gathering site) and includes a central open field, wetland system, water-play stream, skateboard plaza, petanque and streetball courts, a waka-launching area and a playground with sand pit, slides, swings, climbing structures, shade and toilets. Te Papa, Courtenay Place and the historic Post and Telegraph building are next door.

Terribly designed playground! Many areas are unsafe for children under 7. The water play zone is messy and dirty

Has not aged well. Only really suitable for older children, so not great for families or younger children. No swing for younger children and the slide is inaccessible unless. Water, sand play area is okay, but was broken when we visited.
