Te Pā Harakeke is a Nelson City Council cultural nature play space inside the 93 hectare Tahunanui Reserve, opened in 2022 on the former Modellers Pond site between Rocks Road, Beach Road, the Waimea Inlet and the Port Hills. The name, gifted by Nelson City Council kaumātua, references the centre shoot of the harakeke plant representing the child, with awhi rito and tīpuna shoots representing family. Natural play elements include a floor-is-lava trail, a teepee for imaginative play, a bird-watching hut, moats that fill with the tide and a rope climbing course. The park won a New Zealand Recreation Association 2023 Parks Award. Large free parking on site.

Sweet as little adventure park, close to parking, beach, food places, and other summer entertainment like the waterpark and go karts. Shady seating for parents/guardians/grandparents, and super sturdy play structures!

Gorgeous park, so thoughtfully designed with plenty of space for children/adults to climb, sit, eat, gather together. Beautiful native plants. It's a *tidal* place (saw someone complaining about it not having water) and also functions as storm surge drainage, which is pretty cool. Awesome conversion of the old modellers pond, well done to the Council.
