Takaro Park is a 1920s neighbourhood reserve on Botanical Road in Palmerston North (the name means 'play' in te reo Māori). The park has a children's playground, picnic areas, basketball, tennis and bowls courts, and was chosen in 2014 for the city's first free outdoor gym; toilets and parking are on site.

Surprisingly large, open, footy field next to some freshly upgraded basketball courts, outdoor gym equipment, and a small kids playground. Has a (very) little stream and bush stroll too. Could be better lit in places at night, lights over the courts would be particularly great. Good parking, good toilet.
