Marriner Reserve is a Palmerston North City Council park at 26 Marriner Street in Highbury, with maintained gardens, lawns and walking paths set around the playground. The standout feature is the Marriner Reserve Railway, a miniature working model train run by the Palmerston North Model Engineering Club that offers public rides on the first and third Sunday afternoons of each month for a gold coin donation. The combination of train rides, playground and shaded picnic seating makes it a popular destination for younger kids on a Sunday. Best paired with a train-running weekend rather than visited mid-week.

I cannot tell you what an amazing group of people run this place. The trains are gorgeous, the volunteers are amazing, and the place is perfect for a picnic. Loads of places to sit and enjoy the steam and petrol/diesel run engines. Please take your gold coin koha along and enjoy the fun!! - please head along and join the team for fun!

Very nice place, and the idea of the train running on coal is great.
