Rex Morpeth Park is the central Whakatāne recreation hub, a 17-hectare reserve with 16 hectares of year-round playing fields for rugby, soccer, cricket, athletics, tennis and croquet plus a public swimming pool, multiple tennis courts and the Whakatāne War Memorial Hall. The children’s playground sits beside the fields with picnic tables, parking, walking and bike paths around the open space; the precinct is undergoing a council-led master-plan redevelopment as the Rex Morpeth Recreation Hub. Sunday markets and community events feature regularly.

Sunday morning Market!!! Brilliant! Loads of stalls with fruit, veges, small animals and brick a brac, plus hot food and karaoke. What an awesome place to spend a sunday morning!

Litter free, park lush and green, plenty of ground and space to run around, also a place to relax under the trees, or enjoy a picnic, meal.
