Midland Park is Wellington’s central CBD lunch park on Lambton Quay, an inner-city Wellington City Council green wedged between office towers near the Willis Street intersection. The narrow reserve has mature trees, terraced seating and a quiet character that draws office workers to lunch on sunny days, with public toilets and cafes immediately adjacent. The park was created on the site of the former Spanish-style Midland Hotel after Wellington City Council acquired the land in the 1970s; entry is free and it is open at all hours.

Located right in the heart of the city, on the bustling "Golden Mile," Midland Park is a much-needed breath of fresh air. This isn't just another patch of grass; it's a carefully cultivated green oasis providing respite from the surrounding concrete and glass towers. You'll find it teeming with office workers every weekday, escaping the corporate grind to enjoy their lunch breaks or simply take a moment to recharge amidst its calming atmosphere. More than just a lunchtime haven, Midland Park offers a delightful experience for anyone in the city. Its proximity to cafes and downtown shopping makes it easily accessible and a perfect spot to pause and relax. The mix of lush trees, vibrant green grass, and a gentle water feature create a genuinely tranquil environment. It's not uncommon to see people stretching out on a blanket, enjoying a picnic, or even participating in an impromptu outdoor yoga session. The park's origins add to its charm. Originally the site of the Spanish-style Midland Hotel, its acquisition by the Wellington City Council in the 1970s marks a forward-thinking decision to create inner-city green spaces. This initiative, echoing similar movements in urban environments globally, recognizes the critical importance of "breathing space" for those working and living in the city. Midland Park serves as a testament to this vision, providing a place to connect with nature and find a moment of peace within the urban landscape.

Great spot in the middle of Wellington. I enjoyed the restaurants and cafes located in and around here and really enjoyed the sculptures. …
