Memorial Park is a Palmerston North City Council park accessed off Main Street (with secondary entry on Frederick Street, Terrace End), developed from a former metal pit and officially renamed in 1954 to commemorate locals killed in the World Wars. The western side holds two poppy-themed playgrounds with climbing tubes, slides, ramps, swings, balancing balls and ropes, climbing walls and fall nets, plus a dedicated toddler area with slide, bridge and tunnel. Distinctive giant poppies rise out of the play structures both as park symbolism and to provide shade. Adjacent are a free seasonal paddling pool and splashpad, walking paths and parking on the upper terrace.
