The Rotorua Lakefront Playground opened in December 2021 as the centrepiece of the $40 million Rotorua Lakes Council lakefront redevelopment, sitting directly on the edge of Lake Rotorua a short walk from the CBD. Free to use and three times the size of the previous play area, it caters for all ages and abilities with dual flying foxes, a rope course with slide, a nest swing, a pendulum swing, a net see-saw, smooth bike/scooter loops, a basketball half-court and ample seating to watch. Toilets opened next to the playground in early 2022, with food vendors and native-plant landscaping along the lakefront.

This is such a lovely playground. It spans quite a distance along the waterfront. There is lots for kids to do and for various ages and stages. The view out to the waterfront is really lovely. We enjoyed watching the seaplane and helicopter fly in and out. The grounds are well maintained and they have toilets available too. The tearrific truck and coffee truck are a nice addition to stop for a drink on your way out.
