Esplanade Scenic Railway Playground Station is the children's playground stop on the volunteer-run miniature train that loops 2.2 kilometres through Palmerston North's 11 hectare Victoria Esplanade. The playground itself centres on a Rocktopus, basket swing, flying fox, in-ground trampolines, whisper dishes and forts with large slides, with a separate junior play space for under-fives. The wider park surrounds the play area with an Art Deco paddling pool, bird aviaries, the Dugald Mackenzie Rose Garden, conservatory, Junior Road Safety Park and Wildbase Recovery Centre. Trains run weekends and school holidays, making this a full afternoon destination stop.
