Black Hole

Black Hole is Nelson’s best-known freshwater swimming hole, sitting at the foot of Dunkley Falls in the Maitai Valley just five minutes from the city centre. Visitors park at Branford Park (at Hanby Park) and follow a well-maintained track through native bush to the crystal-clear pool, with cascading waterfalls, big boulders for sun-lounging, a rope swing and diving spots. Toilets are at Branford Park; the wider Maitai River Walkway and an adjacent small playground sit alongside.
