Western Park is one of Auckland's oldest public parks (opened 1879), set on a wooded slope between Freemans Bay and Ponsonby with entry points from Ponsonby Road, Beresford Street West and Howe Street. The inclusive playground sits on continuous poured-rubber matting with two racing slides, swings, a basket swing, in-ground trampolines, a wheelchair-accessible carousel, a flying fox, a seesaw, balance features and tree houses. Around it the park has tennis courts, fitness equipment, sports fields, accessible toilets, picnic tables, sunken sculptures of Auckland's historic buildings and the 1km Western Park Path loop.
