The Village Green is Fairlie's central Mackenzie District Council reserve, set right on the State Highway 8 main road through town. The reserve combines the playground, a skatepark and a clutch of local monuments including a train carriage and a soldier on a railway plinth, with public toilets at the playground end and EV charging ports nearby. A 2023 redesign added a new slide, and a 1.2m pool-type safety fence along the highway and Talbot Street sides was installed in 2025 to keep younger kids contained. Best treated as a road-trip stop combined with the Fairlie shops and cafes.

We made a stop at The village Green playground to use the bathrooms and to stretch our legs on our tour of the South Island. A beautiful place for the kids to get out and play. And to walk on some nice soft grass. This is in the city of Fairlie. So if you need to make a stop and stretch your legs, this is the place to do it.
