Thomas Park is a Matamata-Piako District Council heritage park on the corner of Anderson and Moorhouse Streets in central Morrinsville, gifted to the town in 1931 by Margaret Thomas in memory of her husband James (former Piako County Council Chairman). After a community consultation that engaged more than 10 percent of the town, the playground was rebuilt with a striking cowskin pattern wet-pour surface inlaid with local iwi motifs and a childrens artwork mural, plus climbing nets, slides, swings, seesaws, scrambling hills, stepping logs, and rope work. Mature platanus and liquidamber trees provide shade, with picnic tables, border gardens, and a toilet block with baby change facilities. A well-regarded community heart-of-town park rather than a destination playground.
