Pioneer Park is a Kermode Street neighbourhood reserve in central Ashburton, set on the grassed-over site of an early settlers' cemetery and bordered by mature trees. The reserve mixes a modest playground with slide and swings alongside historical features including a John Grigg statue, the concreted arbors locals call the whalebones, water features and seating. It works as a quiet local stop rather than a destination playground, with the historical layer making it as much a place for a wander as for active play.

I just don't know where you can just kick a ball around with no swing slides etc in sight
