Octopus Playground, known as Māra Wheke (Octopus's Garden), is the refreshed Nelson City Council Ngawhatu Reserve play space in Stoke, redesigned through a community workshop. The playground combines four traditional pieces including a slide, an eagle-claw swing and a log climbing frame with three natural play areas built from locally sourced logs and rocks, more than 1,000 new plants and grasses, plus wheelchair-accessible paths. Eight octopus facts hidden on oval plaques and an information panel tell the story behind the Octopus's Garden name. Best treated as a destination Nelson family stop combining play with a wander.

Great little playground for the little ones, watch the paragliders landing or fly a kite!
