Matahourua Park is a Porirua City Council neighbourhood reserve on Warspite Avenue in Cannons Creek, renamed from Calliope Park in August 2022 after Ngāti Toa gifted the name. Matahourua is the sailing vessel Kupe used to reach Aotearoa, so the name honours both wayfinding heritage and the people of Porirua. The reserve combines a neighbourhood playground with slides and shade, a kickabout lawn, basketball and volleyball spaces, picnic seating and toilets; a quiet local stop rather than a destination playground.

Walking with my moko from home to this park is about 5-10min away. My moko are age 3yr,6yrs and 8yrs old..I think this is their favourite one suits them all..then Mungavin str Park has a real good slide that burns bare skin..and flying fix. They like that one to...I grew up in the creek. The changes for children are noticed and appreciated.
