Katherine Mansfield Memorial Park sits on the corner of Hobson Street and Fitzherbert Terrace in Thorndon, a long, narrow Wellington City Council reserve established in the late 1960s as part of the Wellington Urban Motorway project. The park honours author Katherine Mansfield with picnic zones, ponds, a scented garden and the Lady McKenzie Garden for the Blind, plus a modest playground with a distinctive disc swing. A short walk across the Hobson Street bridge from Katherine Mansfield House on Tinakori Road; toilets are nearby and entry is free.

Cute wee park , love the kids playground and the garden for the blind has nice booth seating for lunch or a quiet and discreet meeting. Beautiful sweet smelling flowers and water feature and on the other side you can sit and watch cars on the motorway

This is a gorgeous park that buffers this side of the city from the motorway that runs below. The park is long and thin, making great use of the space through zoning; there is a grassy zone, a picnic bench zone, a kids play equipment area, a pond corner and the garden for the blind is park of the park. The most impressive part of the park is the huge array of plants. There are both natives (pohutukawa, cabbage trees) and exotic species (cherry blossoms, lavender, azaleas, hydrangeas). Every little corner is planted with ... something! So if you love plants, you’ll love it here. I think Katherine Mansfield would have loved it, too. Please kindly note, the park has no toilets but you can pop out of one end of the park to Mojo Cafe to use theirs while you grab your flat white. Also, I did notice a lot of shingle/gravel paths so if you’re a wheelchair user please take note of that.
