Karehana Park is a Porirua City Council coastal reserve between Airlie Road and Cluny Road in Plimmerton, opened in its current form in November 2015 after a three-year community-led redevelopment by the Plimmerton Residents' Association. The redesign was sparked by a local grandfather not being able to wheel his grandson into the park, so the new layout added paved mobility access from both roads, a brand-new playground, a learn-to-ride scooter and bike track for little kids, drinking fountains and a donated pétanque court. The reserve sits a short walk from Karehana Bay, making it an easy combine-with-the-beach stop. Best treated as a destination Plimmerton family visit.

This is a hidden gem, super tidy, gardens are well looked after heaps of room and just a totally pleasant place to chill with kids. There are a good amount of different activities for a range of age groups. Will definitely come back.

We love Karehana Park! The playground has a natural feel to it. The fort caters for bigger kids, while there's a tot friendly slide on a small embankment. Bucket and adult swings as well as a great basket swing that both swings and spins. Surrounding the playground is a bike sized road, complete with roundabout and stop signs to practice riding. There's a large picnic table and good seating for parents. Plenty of space to run and kick a ball, and a full drinking fountain too. You can't see the playground from the road, but can walk in via pathed walkway from both Cluny and Airlie Roads.
