Hockey Reserve is a Nelson City Council neighbourhood playground in the Brook Valley, backing onto the Brook Sanctuary native wildlife reserve, with the Brook Stream running along one edge and native plantings on its banks. The playground features brightly coloured climbing tunnels, totem poles, swings, slide, a flying fox, climbing equipment, rock play and interpretation panels (Resene Total Colour Landscape Award 2013), plus picnic seating, shade, parking and toilets; a concrete shared path along the stream provides easy access.

A nice place to bring the kids on a sunny day. Pack your picnic, there’s shaded picnic tables; just remember to take your rubbish home as there are no bins and maybe bring along some insect repellent. There’s Plenty of room for the kids to run around and explore. Suitable for both younger and older children. There’s swings, slides, climbing wall, obstacles and a mini bmx track. The downside, other than the lack of rubbish bins and permanent amenities (there’s a porta-loo), if you intend on driving here, you need to be prepared to park elsewhere as there is only four parking spots. My kids enjoyed our last visit, they found a couple of “treasure rocks” to rehide which is always fun.
