Destination Kāwaroa sits within Kāwaroa Park on the New Plymouth waterfront beside the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre and is described as one of Aotearoa's largest destination playgrounds (locally promoted as the Southern Hemisphere's largest). The flagship Matariki-themed tower offers a major climbing challenge for confident kids, alongside extensive water play, sand play, a pump track, big slides, a zipline and a Warrior Zone outdoor strength-and-balance circuit for teens and adults. Kinetic-powered native birdsong plays as kids move through, with Ngāti Te Whiti storytelling integrated through the site; all paths are pram-, mobility-aid- and wheelchair-friendly. Funded by the Taranaki Foundation and opened in stages from 2024-25 - a top-tier national destination playground.

Kids had a blast and the changing rooms were very clean! Highly recommend for kids with a great mix of challenges and func activities for them. Recommend bringing in a towel and togs for kids as they are bound to get wet!

Awesome playgrounds that seem to go on forever. Water park was a hit with my boys, and so was the zip line. The scooter park would have been great if we'd brought scooters. Fantastic place to bring the kids and wear them out. Beautiful outlook over the ocean and educational pieces. Definitely coming back!
