What an awesome example of public infrastructure built and maintained for families and community! Was really impressed by the extent of this park after accidentally driving into it while visiting Timaru. Urban planners in Australia could definitely take some notes on this one when designing copy and paste townhouse mega suburbs.

Centennial Park (locally ‘the Scenic’) forms the western boundary of Timaru, a Timaru District Council scenic reserve known for its lake, suspension bridge over Otipua Creek and the city’s headline mountain bike trail network. Three playgrounds near the lake offer slides, climbing structures, spinners and wobbly rope bridges, while a BMX track, MTB skills track, BMX freestyle park and pump track sit at either end of the park. Sheltered BBQs, toilets, picnic spots and multiple entry points (Quarry, Barnes, Matai, Miro, Kowhai Streets) round it out.

What an absolutely brilliant park. Well maintained... some good challenges, well utilised, and some thought and real effort has made this a real jewel. Also... the people are generous with salutations and courteous.
