This 23-acre Upper Hutt City Council park on Akatarawa Road in Brown Owl is locally known as Harcourt Park and famously served as a Lord of the Rings filming location representing the Gardens of Isengard (where Gandalf rode in to meet Saruman). The park has two age-graded playgrounds: the bigger-kids zone with a long fast flying fox, balance and climbing equipment, and slides; and a smaller-kids zone with toddler swings and slides. A fenced summer splash pool (10am-7pm) with mini slide and water sprays sits alongside, with a mini road circuit for cycling/scootering, playing fields, public toilets and picnic space.

Very nice place. Half an hour drive from The City. The kids loved it. They played in the Mini roads with roundabouts, traffic signs, give-ways. I enjoyed taking photos from the bridge overlooking the river. Highly recommended for a family picnic.

Such a beautiful park! Crazy to believe that isenguard was filmed here. Went on a weekday and the park was very quiet! I would recommend spending time here it's beautiful and very relaxing
