You can climb from here to the top of the mountain (350 m high, moderate difficulty and takes about 35-60 minutes to climb). At the top, overlooking down Wellington Harbour and the Hutt Valley.

Te Whiti Park is a public recreational reserve in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, at the base of Pukeatua, with sports fields, walking and mountain-biking trails, a playground, public toilets and changing rooms. The Te Matauraura o Whenuangaro multipurpose centre, opened in 2022 through a partnership between Hutt City Council and Te Runanganui o Te Ati Awa, supports rangatahi education, te reo Maori and tikanga programmes, sports coaching and community events. Off-street parking is right beside the playground.
