Pakanga Reserve in The Lakes subdivision off Pakanga Grove (off Te Ranga Memorial Drive, Tauranga) is billed as the citys first dedicated water playground. The play space centres on a watering hole, river channels with control gates, water pumps, and water wheels for kids to direct the flow themselves, alongside a flying fox and picnic spots under the shade trees. Bring spare clothes; it gets properly wet and is well-regarded by Tauranga families. A summer favourite for water play rather than a standard manufactured playground.

Small but loads of water fun. We drove down here as we were in the area, and our boy had lots of fun playing with the water equipment here. There isn’t too much variety in way of equipment, but it feels fairly new and was very quiet when we were there, so pretty much had the whole place to our selves. The water play is indeed loads of fun, i even joined in on some of the festive splashes.

This is a truly incredible playground different from anything we currently have in the area. My kids are water babies and could happily spend hours here. Amazing place to take lunch and picnic. Remember to bring togs and towels though 😊 …
