The Willows is a 6km non-motorised recreation park within the Waimakariri River Regional Park at the end of Thompsons Road, McLeans Island, managed by Environment Canterbury with Selwyn District Council. The park threads gentle pushchair-friendly tracks through willows, poplars, pines and mature kōwhai, with a 4km shared walking and cycling trail, a 4.3ha dog park with agility equipment, fishing points (licence required), picnic and motor-caravan parking. Family-friendly amenities sit at the carpark rather than a playground in the traditional sense.
